BFA in conjunction with their subconsultant, CH2M Hill, was awarded the Professional Civil Engineering Services associated with the City of
Altamonte Springs
’ Regional Alternative Water Supply project known as “APRICOT Renewed.”
APRICOT Renewed is a regional alternative water supply project utilizing reclaimed water, surface water, and stormwater resources that is identified in the SJRWMD 2005 District Water Supply Plan as amended in 2006. The project is anticipated to utilize stormwater recovered by the widening of Interstate 4 (a FDOT project) through
Altamonte Springs
for augmentation of the reclaimed water systems in both
Altamonte Springs
and the City of
Apopka
. The project also addresses the City’s current reclaimed supplemental supply limitations by providing a direct connection between the current surface water augmentation sources and the City’s reclaimed water distribution system. A ductile iron pipeline from Altamonte’s RWRF to Apopka’s WRF will be designed and constructed to allow for the beneficial use by the City of Apopka of Altamonte’s reclaimed water that is currently permitted to be discharged to the Little Wekiva River (an Outstanding Florida Water) during wet weather. The participants envision this regional project (APRICOT Renewed) will assist in the reduction of the region’s dependence on and use of groundwater and further the development of supplemental water supply projects in accordance with the goals of the SJRMWD Action Plan for the Central Florida Coordination Area in which the City of Altamonte Springs is located and the nutrient reduction goals of the Wekiva Parkway and Protection Act.
